Circle Principles

Principles and Guidelines
  • Respect and Listen: The group comes together to listen carefully and respect different viewpoints without interrupting or judging. Only share your thoughts, not remarks on others' ideas.
  • Equal Voice: In the circle, every person has an equal opportunity to share their ideas and perspectives
  • Confidentiality and Safety: By joining this circle, you agree to be heard and acknowledge that the results will be shared with A Day for All of US. What will be shared will be agreed upon by each group.
  • Speak from the Heart: Encourage authentic expression and honest sharing, focusing on feelings and experiences rather than accusations or blame.
  • No Hierarchies: Encourage an environment where authority is limited, and everyone's input is equally respected.
  • Speaking should proceed around the circle, passing the talking piece to the left (clockwise).
  • Promote Collaboration: Encourage participants to listen actively and build on each other's ideas to foster mutual understanding and collective wisdom.
  • Stay present: Be mindful and focused on the current moment, avoiding distractions and paying attention to the ongoing conversation. Also, avoid thinking ahead about what you'll say when it's your turn.
  • Clarify Intentions: Set clear intentions for the circle, such as contributing to the open letter, and understanding.
  • Welcome new people to the circle.
  • Remember, this exercise isn't about airing grievances; it's about identifying what we want for all of us in this nation. Stay positive.
  • You agree to receive a weekly newsletter.
  • You agree to post the results of your circle.
